The Central Islamic Council of Thailand
Was established under the Islamic Religious Organization Administration Act B.E. 2540 (1997).
It consists of:
1. The Chularajmontri (Chief Islamic Religious Leader), Chairman;
2. Members appointed by Royal Decree from the Provincial Islamic Committees, with one representative from each of the 40 provinces, serving a six-year term;
3. Other members selected by the Chularajmontri, comprising one-third of the number of representatives from the Provincial Islamic Committees, serving a six-year term.
Its main activities include:
1. Providing advice to government agencies;
2. Issuing Halal certification for food products;
3. Translating English and Arabic documents;
4. Document certification;
5. Marriage certification;
6. Certification of Muslim identity or conversion to Islam;
7. Answering religious questions;
8. Disseminating Islamic teachings through journals, radio, television, websites, etc.;
9. Mediation/resolution of disputes between various organizations as prescribed by law;
10. Conducting public benefit and social welfare activities.
